WHAT ARE THE RESPONSIBILITIES OF THE POSITION?
This position is responsible for Profit, Growth and Quality of assigned programs business within the department. The position will assist in directing the execution of the Marine Strategic and Operating Plans, including:
* Agency Sales/Program Management: Build strong, distinctive strategic partnerships with key agents and brokers. Develop and implement segment sales plans. Keen insight into competitor's strengths, weaknesses and strategies to leverage for profitable business and increased agency penetration.
* Underwriting Operations: Ensures that underwriting practices and guidelines are understood and adhered to, specifically focusing upon pricing, risk selection, mix of business, flow management and quality analysis. Utilize QA and referral programs to identify opportunities to develop staff to ensure functional and regulatory integrity of the book of business and overall compliance with middle market segment guidelines.
* Planning and Monitoring Results: Works closely with management to develop strategic and operating plans, which leverage agent/broker relationships and positions The Hartford to grow profitably. Closely manages plan results and directs implementation of specific actions to address financial shortfalls.
* Additionally, the position will produce and underwrite Commercial Inland Marine, Ocean Cargo, and Property business. The primary responsibility will be new business development and retaining larger profitable renewals. This will be accomplished by attending scheduled producer visits, soliciting new business, working renewals, and making account presentations.
* There may be light overnight travel. This position is eligible for an annual bonus which is based on achieving results in production and profit objectives.
Qualifications
WHAT ARE WE LOOKING FOR?
The ideal candidate will be an experienced Commercial Inland and Ocean Marine Underwriter with some exposure to property.
As a Commercial Marine Underwriter, the position will produce and underwrite Commercial Inland Marine, Ocean Cargo, and Property business. The primary responsibility will be new business development and retaining profitable renewals. This will be accomplished by devoting their time out of the office attending scheduled producer visits, soliciting new business, working renewals, and making account presentations.
Candidates should also possess the following qualifications and skills:
* Bachelor's Degree or equivalent in experience
* Excellent Interpersonal Skills
* Candidate must be able to travel
* Solid relationship building skills
* Good presentation skills
* Strong written and verbal communication skills
* Strong sales acumen required
