Responsibilities:
The Aerospace, Defense & Marine (AD&M) Business Unit is seeking a self-motivated
hands on energetic Quality Engineer for our Rochester Wire & Cable operation located in Culpeper, Va. Rochester Wire and Cable, LLC is a $45 million a year production operation that primarily serves both land and offshore oil exploration activities with engineered wire and electrical/optical cable.
Our Quality Assurance team ensures that systems are in place to meet or exceed customer expectations and industry standards, and supports our internal customers to find solutions to meet our safety, quality delivery and cost objectives.
Our ideal candidate will perform root cause analysis on inputs from customer complaints, internal product nonconformances, raw material rejects and QMS audits to drive process performance improvements. This position will be key in developing tests to verify processes and new designs as well as working with engineering to eliminate tests through improved process monitoring.
To qualify, candidates must possess excellent verbal and written communication skills and be adept in the creation of operator work instructions. This role will require strong teamwork skills to collaborate with our engineering, materials, manufacturing, sales and maintenance departments as well as customers and suppliers. Occasional overnight travel may be required.
Requirement:
Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
1. Evaluate and report on customer complaints.
2. Conduct corrective action meetings and lead root cause analysis of internal product nonconformities, customer complaints, raw material issues, and QMS audit findings.
3. Review customer specifications and purchase orders to ensure compliance with customer and regulatory requirements. Create Test Plans to flow those requirements to test and inspection activities.
4. Coordinate the outsourcing of tests and lab analysis that cannot be performed internally
5. Evaluate new product designs with engineering to determine necessary process and design verification tests.
6. Support process validation studies to drive a reduction in reliance on inspection as a quality assurance methodology
7. Own all quality measurement and management related aspects of supplier relationships for a portfolio of raw materials that impact the Cost of Quality (COQ).
8. Lead Supplier Quality initiatives, and develop activities to fix-or-exit problematic suppliers by implementing robust corrective actions or qualifying alternate suppliers
9. Support the electrical, optical and mechanical test function. Assist in determining test equipment needs as well as writing test procedures and training technicians.
10. Use Lean Six Sigma to implement projects improving customer satisfaction while eliminating waste.
11. Perform data analysis of nonconformances and process breakdowns to identify priorities and key projects.
12. Perform other duties and projects as assigned.
Minimum Requirements:
* BS in engineering (Electrical Engineering preferred) with 2 - 3 years of experience in manufacturing environment preferred.
* Demonstrated communication skills, both verbal and written.
* Ability to travel to customers and suppliers to resolve quality issues.
* Knowledge of Six Sigma and statistics, or equivalent experience preferred
* Demonstrated ability to identify root cause, drive improvement actions and resolve problems.
