If your enthusiastic response is Yes!, Yes!, Yes!, come and join our centralized payroll team in the Human Resources Department! Use your research, analytical, technical and customer service skills to ensure that the County's 3800 employees are paid accurately and on time. Payroll is processed bi-weekly using an innovative and complex ERP system (Oracle) with multiple modules.

Your responsibilities will include:

Researching and analyzing pay data, pay discrepancies and other payroll issues to identify root cause, potential systemic issues and user error trends and to determine appropriate long and short term corrective action;
Reviewing submitted payroll actions for accuracy and appropriateness, calculating payments and entering data into the automated payroll system;
Providing technical assistance and advice to employees using self-service and to managers on a wide variety of complex pay rules, policy and procedures;
Conducting quality control/audit and reporting activities to assist in the operation of the Payroll Office;
Analyzing post-payroll reports and creating customized analytical reports in spreadsheet format;
Researching and preparing responses to State requests for information; and,
Auditing new hire paperwork; and participate in a wide variety of other full life cycle payroll processing activities.
Success in this job requires a proactive individual with strong analytical skills who can understand the big picture issues and also attend to the details; has superb customer service skills; has the ability to convey complex information in an easily understood manner, either verbally or in analytical report format; can work collaboratively with employees and managers and still maintain confidentiality; has strong organizational skills and the confidence to work independently, prioritize own work, meet tight payroll deadlines, and recommend solutions to problems or new directions for the unit.

Minimum: A combination of education and experience that demonstrates the following competencies:
1) expertise in payroll processes, functions, and laws;
2) ability to use complex, automated human resources/payroll information systems for routine processing and data analysis; and,
3) a record of high quality customer service in a high volume, fast paced, deadline-sensitive work environment.

This combination of experience and education is typically obtained through a two or four year college or technical degree in Public Administration, Business Administration, Accounting, or related field AND experience in payroll functions for a large, complex organization.

Desirable:
a) experience working with an integrated ERP (Enterprise Resource Planning) system;
b) advanced level skill in Excel;
c) experience in auditing or payroll accounting;
d) experience interpreting pay rules;
e) experience researching and explaining complex pay problems; and/or
f) experience with Oracle payroll system.
