Capital One is hiring for a Communications and Training Manager to provide tactical communication and training support for a variety of Corporate Security Services (CSS) goals and initiatives. This position will develop and publish communications, provide editorial review and markup of written documents, develop computer-based and classroom training courses, facilitate classroom training sessions for Capital One associates on physical security/internal fraud, and support internal talent development initiatives through data management and maintenance of talent development resources.
Responsibilities:
Communication
- Utilizes multiple communication channels to publish, update and maintain content, including email, intranet, and wiki-based tools
- Tailors communications to the needs of each project or initiative, while reflecting the values and culture at Capital One, to include sensitivity to cultural diversity
- Partners with Corporate, HR, and LOB communication teams when developing communications to Capital One associates
- Demonstrates exceptional facility for both grammar and composition
- Writes clearly and succinctly
- Provides logistical and coordination support for department meetings
- Provides logistical and coordination support to new associates
Instructional Design & Development
- Applies recognized instructional design methodologies for adult learning
- Conducts needs assessments, identifying specific performance gaps and knowledge gaps
- Works independently and effectively with subject matter experts and stakeholders to obtain content and to develop relevant case studies and exercises
- Manages ongoing subject matter expert and other client relationships
- Writes effective learning objectives, content, and training/project plans at curricula level
- Creates and implements training delivery plans. Integrates training plans with other related work streams in a project environment
- Selects appropriate training medium for each project/initiative, including classroom, CBT and job aids
- Develops training material in support of multiple learning styles (visual, auditory, kinesthetic)
- Facilitates meetings dealing with training projects
- Sets proper expectations with clients and provides clear, succinct updates including identifying risks
- Builds evaluation strategies per client needs using Kirkpatrick Levels 1 to 3. Implements training evaluation strategies and reporting mechanisms, as needed
Facilitation
- Demonstrates and understands adult learning theory and applies the principles in the classroom
- Communicates to participants the overall context of the training and how it fits into the larger goals of the company/department/initiative
- Exhibits effective classroom management skills that reflect the values and culture at Capital One, to include sensitivity to cultural diversity
- Adapts instructional strategies to meet learning styles of students
- Manages the timing of delivery so that the content is covered appropriately in the given timeframe
- Engages the class in discussion through the use of appropriate questions, ensuring tone, inflection and practicality are incorporated
- Makes appropriate adjustments during the session based on assessment of the success of the training in the moment, while staying true to the objectives
- Evaluates success of the class based on client needs, learning objectives and overall program objectives. Integrates learning from other sessions/programs as appropriate.
- Provides clear and succinct feedback to content developers regarding the effectiveness of training materials, the sequence of content, and the overall effectiveness of the program
- Provides initial training for new associates on department organization as well as relevant systems and processes
Qualifications
Basic Qualifications:
- High school diploma, GED or equivalent
- 3 years of work experience that required exceptional communication skills, both verbal and written, including facility for grammar, sentence structure and punctuation
- 3 years of experience working with clients to determine their skill/knowledge needs and recommending and implementing appropriate learning solutions
- 3 years of experience designing and developing training content, programs, and integrated projects
- 3 years of experience facilitating training courses
Preferred Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree in instructional design, adult education, communications or related discipline
- 5 years of work experience that required exceptional communication skills, both verbal and written, including facility for grammar, sentence structure and punctuation
- 5 or more years of experience working with clients to determine their skill/knowledge needs and recommending and implementing appropriate learning solutions
- 5 or more years of experience designing and developing training content, programs, and integrated projects
- 5 or more years of experience delivering training courses
- Experience with graphic editing and video editing/production software
- Certified Professional in Learning and Performance (CPLP) or equivalent certification
- Exceptional communication skills, both verbal and written, including facility for grammar, sentence structure and punctuation
- High level of proficiency with MS Word and PowerPoint
- Demonstrated ability to work in a fast-paced environment and adapt easily to change
- Demonstrated ability to function well in an ambiguous environment
- Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively as well as independently
- Demonstrated ability to work autonomously with limited direction
