Responsibilities:

The Aerospace, Defense & Marine (AD&M) Business Unit is seeking a self-motivated

hands on Design Engineer for our Rochester Wire & Cable operation located in Culpeper, Va. The Rochester Corporation is a $56 million production operation that primarily serves both land and offshore oil exploration activities with engineered wire and cable.

Our Design Engineering team works with our customers to find solutions to their unique cable design and field application needs. Our ideal candidate would be a key contributor to this team and create product designs using sound and accepted engineering principles as well as produce the documentation and specifications required to support our designs. This role will have significant interaction with our customers and our local leadership team. Our ideal candidate must possess excellent verbal and written communication skills and be able to articulate their engineering expertise to our internal and external customers.

Requirement:

On-going activities include, but are not limited to:

1. Create cable designs to meet customer application needs based on knowledge of materials, equipment, and processing methods. Designs must reflect sound engineering principles and quality process guidelines
2. Produce required documentation to support the design effort including, but not limited to, Engineering Specifications (ES s), Engineering Change Orders (ECO s), Engineering Change Procedures (ECP s), Material Specifications (MS s), and related documents.
3. Provide technical assistance to internal and external customers to resolve challenges with product design and testing.
4. Search for new design methods, materials, and processes that will improve efficiency, performance, and product reliability. Keep your fingers on the pulse new developments in the engineering field as relates to Rochester/ Tyco Electronics products.
5. Prepare cost estimates for designs using knowledge of manufacturing processes and capabilities and provide written responses to customer requests for quotation, specifications, and inquiries as directed.
6. Perform other duties as assigned.

Our ideal candidate is an experienced, self-starter, with a minimum of 3 years of hands on experience in cable design, manufacturing, or test.

Knowledge of design and testing of copper based twisted pairs and quads for analog and digital transmission systems (i.e. RS 422, RS 485, Cat 5, or overlay schemes) is desired. RF, coaxial, and/or 3 phase high voltage power cable design experience is an added plus.

Other required qualifications include:

* Bachelor's degree in electrical engineering. Applicants with mechanical, materials, physics or other closely related engineering disciplines may be considered.
* Functional work experience with microcomputer-based software used in the design and documentation process (ex. Auto CAD)
* Track record in providing technical assistance while fostering client relationships and excellent customer service.
